Viewing UV beams with UV Converter Glass


In cases where live viewing of UV beams is required, the SensorPhysics UV-1 series of converter glasses can be used together with the LaserTest software. This glass converts UV light from 190-380 nm to green light with no bleaching of the converting agent.

Data obtained with the UV converter glass is shown below and is substantially the same as data obtained with the SensorCards. Comparing these two methods, the SensorCards require minimal space to sample the beam, while the UV converter glass has to be viewed with a camera and lens. Both materials are suitable for measuring very small beams on the order of 1 micron or less.

Standard UV-1 Glass sizes: 20x20x3mm, 40x40x3mm, 25x75x1mm. Custom sizes on request.

Response time: 5msec to 10%

Damage fluence: 20 W/cm2 for 10 minutes with 0.1J/cm2 248nm 200Hz laser exposure.

The conversion efficiency of this glass is quite high, ranging from about 1% at 193nm to 15% at 248nm, 35% at 308nm, and 16% 357nm. We have measured linearity at powers (up to 0.6 mW/cm2) and the response is linear. Up to the damage limit, higher powers can be used.

In addition to standard glass sizes SensorPhysics offers standard and custom beam samplers incorporating the UV-1 series converter glasses.
